5G Simplified

Realizing that 5G is such a fascinating base for many new, unheard applications, I decided to research the topic more. I published 5G Explained with Wiley in 2019 and started to give related presentations to technical and non-technical audiences. I found that many were interested in somewhat lighter material to study the basics of 5G without spending too much time in such comprehensive technical foundations and terminology.
So, a publication which would present overall technical aspects of 5G in an easy-to-understand way started to make sense, and as a result, I wrote 5G Simplified in the same year.
As the title indicates, the idea of this book is to demystify 5G technology in a common-sense yet concrete way, and to serve as an introduction for students and other interested parties with or without prior knowledge on mobile communications.
The focus of this edition is on some of the most important aspects, functionalities, and principles of the initial phase of 5G based on the 3GPP specifications. It also functions as an introduction to the topics presented in the 5G Explained book, for the ones interested in more details.
I wanted to make this publication feasible for longer term purposes, too, as a practical and easy-to-use reference guide in eBook and printed formats. This book thus contains short “technical articles” of the most important 5G items in alphabetical order. Some of the chapters present technical principles such as Core Network, which summarizes the new 5G network functions, while other chapters are more generic such as Business Models. Depending on your current areas of interest, the modularity of this book should help familiarize you with the most relevant topics in any order you prefer.
Thanks to this modularity, I believe it is straightforward to capture the principles of the topics of interest without need to read through the whole book. At the end of each chapter, I have indicated the related key specifications of relevant standardization bodies for easing further studies. The references also indicate 5G Explained sections where you can find more details.
